7" Pau Hana: Hawaiian Superman

Here’s the story behind this one.

I learned about this color long before I ever made a lure. It was back when POP Tackle Shop was still at their old location, and websites were just getting started. I’d check the Chupu Sportfishing and Foxy Lady sites, then call the fish auction every week to get an idea of what was biting.

One day I saw the captain of Chupu walking around POP with two fistfuls of skirts, probably 12 outer skirts and 12 inner skirts. I’d never seen anyone buy more than one or two at a time. I kind of knew the guy working the counter, so I asked him what that was all about. His answer was one word: Superman.

That was the first color combo I ever knew a professional fisherman to use. Remember, this was a time with limited internet, no social media and nobody told you what colors or lures they were running. More than 25 years later I can still picture that day, and how fired up I was to get that insider clue.

The Hawaiian Superman was born from that day. It’s a color rooted in Hawaii fishing history, with decades of fish to its credit that no one will ever be able to count.
